John Henry Burton lost the love of his life, Agnes M. “Granny” Burton, 85, Friday, Sept. 14, 2012. She died at her residence in Edinburgh.
She was born March 24, 1927, to the late Miller and Ogin (Cowan) Stapleton in Adair County, Ky.
She married John Burton on Dec. 19, 1941, in New Hope Brethren in Christ Church in Adair County, Ky. He survives.
Other survivors include her children, Bill Boy (Karen) Burton, Eddie Dale (Susie) Burton and Judy Gail Lowman, all of Edinburgh; daughter-in-law, Mary Burton of Columbus; eight grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, E.C. Stapleton of Lousiville, Ky.
She was preceded in death by a son, David E. Burton; a daughter, Hattie R. Burton; brothers, Sam, Manuel and Andrew Stapleton and Ed Cowan; sisters, Virginia Burton and Dillrie Wheat; half sisters, Ollie and Ruth Stapleton; and a grandchild.
She was a 56-year member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher.
She retired in 1990 from Alma Plastics of Edinburgh as an inspector and painter. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, sewing and flowers.
The Rev. Guy Hardin conducted a funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 1010 S. Main St. Calling was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, and from noon until time of service Sept. 18 at the church. Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
