Velma Goldsmith, 87, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Franklin Meadows Nursing Home. She was a resident of Edinburgh.
She was born May 16, 1925, in Columbia, Ky., to the late John Hardin Rooks and Emma L. (Holmes) Rooks. She married Elmo Goldsmith on Dec. 22, 1940. He died April 23, 1996.
Survivors include five children, Nancy (Bruce) Campbell of Nineveh, Jeanie (Larry) Estes and Dwight (Ruth) Goldsmith, both of Edinburgh, Betty (Darrell) Cummings of Trafalgar and Gilbert (Barb) Goldsmith of Yellow Springs, W.Va.; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three sons, Stanley, Hansley and Jimmy Goldsmith; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Goldsmith; and four siblings, Doyle, Roy, Paul and Pauline Rooks.
She was a 68-year member of Edinburgh Wesleyan Church.
She was a former nurse’s aide at Brown’s Nursing Home in Edinburgh.
The Rev. Lewis Burton will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Who So Ever Will Community Church, 623 S. Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of funeral home.
