Linda Mae Sneddon Schmidt, 63, of Greenwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012.
Linda Schmidt was born June 23, 1949, in Brazil, Ind., to Marjory Muriel (Wells) and John Henry Sneddon.
Linda is survived by her mother, Marjory Sneddon; her husband of 29 years, Dr. Alan Dale Schmidt; their son, Henry Alan Schmidt, and their daughter, Susanne Marie (Mark) Albrecht; her sister Julie (Scott) Stephens and their children, Rick, Emma and Ryne; her brother Tom (Brenda) Sneddon and their children, Ryan and Jonathan; cousins Cindi Sanders and Janet Romeril; and other relatives.
Linda graduated from Brazil High School in 1967 and from Purdue University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in geochemistry.
She was a member of the Geochemical Society, Indiana Geologists and Water Environment Federation.
In June 2010, she rode her motorcycle to Billings, Mont., and back for the Yamaha Star rally.
She enjoyed sightseeing, hiking, backpacking and canoeing in state and national parks.
She lived in Greenwood for the past 20 years.
Linda worked at the Indiana Department of Environmental Management since 1994 in the Office of Water Quality as a senior environmental manager, guiding surface water monitoring programs to improve the quality of Indiana watersheds.
She previously worked at Loctite in Aurora, Ill., and in the silicone products division of General Electric in Waterford, N.Y., from 1976 to 1984.
She was in the bell choir at Center Grove Presbyterian Church.
She was a Girl Scout leader and color guard mom at Center Grove High School.
Linda fought colon cancer metastasized to brain tumors with neurosurgery, chemotherapy and radiation for more than two years.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, and two hours before the 3 p.m. funeral on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135 at Olive Branch Road.
