Lester I. Sands, 92, of Whiteland, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.
He was born Oct. 1, 1920, to the late James and Margaret (Guynn) Sands.
He worked as a printer for the Indiana Freemasons for more than 40 years.
Lester was a life member of International Order of Odd Fellows. He was a past worshipful master and worshipful patron of the Jubilee Masonic Lodge 746 in Whiteland, where he helped in the construction of the building. He also was a life member of the Scottish Rite Temple and a former member of Greenwood First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his companion, Marie Cope; three daughters, Carolyn Duncan, Irene (Roy King) Jordan and Marcia (Michael) Venne; a brother, Robert Sands; a sister, Mary Louise Wohler; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elnora Meadors; a son, Ernest Sands; two brothers; two grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.
