Chief Warrant Officer 4 Richard “Duke” Lewis, 80, of Franklin passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

He was born Sept. 4, 1932, to the late Halbert and Lucille (Fraker) Lewis. Duke was a 1950 graduate of Trafalgar High School and retired from the U.S. Army after 41 years of service. On Aug. 16, 1975, he married Judith Harbert in Johnson County; and she preceded him in death in 2007. He was a member of the Army’s Ceremonial Guard at Stout Field and enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include three sons, Terry Lewis (Carolyn), Danny Lewis (Kathy) and Jeff Lewis (Mary Anne); a daughter, Terry Jones (John); five brothers, Jim, Jack, Jerry, Henry and Ronnie Lewis; three sisters, Betty Ann Rice, Patty Campbell and Barbara Pogue; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org, in lieu of flowers.
