Mary Garrity, 94, a resident of St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove and a former resident of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012.

She was born March 24, 1918, in Indianapolis to the late Chris and Eugenia Gershanoff. She married John A. Garrity on July 19, 1942, in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2002.

She had been a bank teller for Indiana National Bank and American Fletcher National Bank in Indianapolis.

She was known for her Macedonian cooking for her family and friends.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and godly woman.

Survivors include her children, Maureen “Mo” (Carl) Otto of Cincinnati, and Jan (Chick) Lauck and Dennis (Cindy) Garrity, both of Greenwood; a sister, Zena Mircheff of California; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; special friends, Jeanette Dusing of Indianapolis and Leeann Ziegler of Greenwood; and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, John Gershanoff; and a sister, Christina Corbin.

The family wishes to express their thanks for the loving care that the staff and health care staff of St. Paul Hermitage provided for Mary.

The Rev. Shan Rutherford will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Hermitage, 501 N. 17th Ave., Beech Grove, IN 46107; or Roncalli High School, 3300 Prague Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227.

Swartz Family Church and Chapel-Funeral and Cremation Services in Greenwood is handling arrangements.
