James O. Howard, 80, Indianapolis, passed away Thursday Jan. 10, 2013.

He was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Indianapolis to the late William and Nora (Rooks) Howard.

He was a 1950 graduate of Southport High School and was in the National Honor Society as the most outstanding student of his graduating class. He was employed 34 years at Chevrolet Truck and Bus, retiring in 1987 in the financial depart­ment.

He was an ordained deacon and choir member at Southport Presbyterian Church.

James married Joyce Fox on May 24, 1958, and she survives.

Other survivors are daughters, Carol Howard and Sandra (Bret) Connors; grandchildren, Yolanda and Raina Alvarado, Rachel and Sarah Connors; sisters, Betty Layman and Edna (Allen) Peetz; and a brother, William (Phyllis) Howard.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 7602 Madison Ave., Indianapolis with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Glenns Valley.
