Lola Ruth (Dunning) Hoskins, 84, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove. She was a resident of Greenwood and formerly a longtime resident of New Whiteland.
She was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Monroe County, to Harley Otis and Beulah Mae (Baugh) Dunning. She graduated from Gosport High School in 1946.
Lola married Luffman Hoskins Jr. on April 14 in Gosport. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1996.
After working in various positions for the State of Indiana, she served as a courtroom deputy clerk for the U.S. federal court system from June 1975 until she retired in September 1994. She was known for her exceptional devoted work and her unselfish hours of service.
Lola was a member of the American Business Women’s
Association and a past member of the Johnson County Democrat Central Committee and served as the director of the Federal Court Clerks Association.
She was a life member of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority.
Lola’s love and dedication to her work was surpassed only by her love for her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Greenwood Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Keith Dunning and Kenneth Dunning; and her special friend, Lou Sperka.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Jo (Chuck) Billingsly of Greenwood; her three grandchildren, Laura (Matt) Dingman of Indianapolis and Brian (Tina) Billingsly and Andy (Tiffany) Billingsly, both of Greenwood; and five great-grandchildren, Rachel, Sam, Mark and Brooke Billingsly and Abigail Dingman. She also is survived by two sisters, ViEva (David) Thrasher and Lois Magner, both of Bloomington; a brother, Kextel Dunning of Gosport; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Dunning of Spencer.
Shan Caldwell will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Friday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary, where a rosary service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday. Additional visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Gosport Cemetery.
