Harold Eugene Payton, 75, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin.

He was born March 4, 1938, in Franklin to Levi Payton and Marjorie Catherine (Meade) Sturgeon. He married Margaret Frances (Purdy) Payton on May 27, 1959. She lovingly survives in Franklin.

Other survivors include two sons, Steven Lee (Theresa) Turner of Franklin, Paul Edward Turner of Franklin and one daughter, Sharon Jean (Tony) Sabatino of Columbus; seven grandchildren, April Marie Turner, Paul William Gaertner, Chrissy Turner, Charles Turner, Gwen Turner, Joshua Buchanan and Nichole Curtis; 10 great-grandchildren and one brother, Raymond (Diana) Payton of Greensburg.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, and sister, Vivian Followell.

Gene attended schools in Columbus. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was employed with the City of Franklin, street department for 40 years.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
