Joseph H. Hurrle
 

Joseph H. Hurrle, 81, of Greenwood, died of Parkinson’s disease Monday, March 18, 2013, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

The son of Henry and Hanna (McIntyre) Hurrle, Joe was born July 12, 1931, in Indianapolis and graduated from Southport High School in 1949. He graduated from the Indiana Central College with a Bachelor of Science in 1953. He played on the 13-0 baseball team of 1952 and was inducted into the Greyhound Athletics Hall of Fame in 2001.

Joe served his country in the U.S. Army as a specialist second class and was honorably discharged in 1955. He later obtained his Master of Arts in business with an accounting major from Ball State University in 1969 and completed 12 hours of graduate work in math at the University of Maryland.

Joe married his high school sweetheart, Norma JoAnn Kirkham, on May 23, 1953, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis.

Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years; a daughter, Diann (Dave) Jacobson, and three grandchildren, Rachel, Neil and Kyle of Sioux City, Iowa; a son, Stan of Greenwood; two brothers, Louie (Suzanne) Hurrle of Greenfield and David (Chris) Hurrle of Indianapolis; two nieces; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, infant Stewart and Stephen; a brother, John; and a daughter, Betty Sue Hurrle.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Thursday at Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church, 335 S. Meridian St.

The Hurrle family would like to thank the staffs of the Greenwood Convalescent Center and University Heights Health & Living Community for kind and personal care.

Arrangements are being handled by Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory.
