John Robert Stevens Sr., 83, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Greenwood. He was a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Indianapolis.
He was born Dec. 19, 1929, in Indianapolis to Harry O. and Lue E. (Griffith) Stevens. He married Agnes (Totton) Stevens.
He is survived by a son, John R. and wife, Linda, Stevens Jr. of New Whiteland; a daughter, Grace E. and husband, Brian, Hatfield of Texas; four grandchildren, John Joseph Stevens, Wendy (Jeff Spruill) Baker, Sharon (Brent) Carver and Caron (David) Bond; and seven great-grandchildren, Robbie, Nick, Katelynn, Isabella, Carley, Alexis and Earl Jr.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; his wife, Agnes; a son, William Harnold Stevens; a brother, Harry C. Stevens; and a sister, Mary Ellen “Peggy” Farrell.
John was a graduate of Cathedral High School and attended Indiana University in Indianapolis.
He was an accountant for Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis, retiring after several years of service.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin and the Knights of Columbus.
Father John Beitens will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial at noon Friday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Drive, Franklin. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis.
