Marian Elizabeth Smith
Marian Elizabeth Smith, 94, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1919, in Indianapolis, to George Washington Sater and Anna Luella (Baker) Sater.
She married Marion Thomas Anderson. He preceded her in passing. She later married Melvin Hade Smith. He lovingly survives in Franklin.
She is also survived by children, Ronny (Sarah) Anderson of Greenwood, Carroll (Carol) Anderson of Greenwood, Sharon Smale of Greenfield, and Vonda (Neil) Stahl of Chapel Hill, N.C.; daughter-in–law, Dorothy Lambert of Ishpeming, Mich.; stepchildren, Beverly (Lewis) Glentzer of Franklin, Sandra (Keith) Black of Bloomington, Barbara (Michael) Burdine of Franklin, Joyce (Doug) Lowes of Falmouth, Marvin (Karen) Smith of Gosport and Connie Weiscamp of Wellington, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; 17 stepgrandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren and great-great-stepgrandchildren.
Marian was preceded in passing by her parents; first husband, Marion Anderson; daughter, Sandra Kay Anderson; son, Norman Anderson; grandson, Richard Alan Anderson; son-in-law, Joseph Smale; and one stepgrandchild.
She was a graduate of Washington High School in Indianapolis.
Marian worked during World War II at Zenite Metals in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. Marian was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2079, where she belonged to the Ladies of the Moose. She was a member of the Franklin Active Adult Center where she played the drums in the band up until the age of 88. She also served as the
ecretary and treasurer with the senior center.
She enjoyed square dancing for many years in Arkansas with her husband, Marion. He enjoyed dancing for many years.
A service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis following the service.
