Michael Wayne Smith, 68, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, in Bradenton, Fla. He was a resident of Columbus.
He was born Dec. 21, 1943, to the late Raymond W. Smith and Elizabeth (Morris) Smith Ault.
Survivors include two daughters, Shelly Baxter of Edinburgh and Donata (Jim) Shockley of Scipio; a son, Tony (Tana) Brothenbuehler of Lena, Ill.; three sisters, Joyce Ann Walker of Franklin, Cindy Jo Smith of Edinburgh and Debra (Daniel) Burton of Nineveh; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Edinburgh American Legion Post 233, Sons of the American Legion and Legion Riders of Oneco, Fla., Plumbers and Pipe Fitters, H.O.G. of Bloomington, Disabled American Veterans, and Eagle and Moose Lodges in Bradenton, Fla.
He was a former employee of Thomas and Smith Mechanical Contractors in Columbus and retired from LED in Columbus.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and participating in rides for charity for the American Legion. He also enjoyed fishing and boating.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, 302 E. Main Cross St., Edinburgh. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
