Geneva Cope Thornbury, 81, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin.

She was born April 6, 1931, in Upton, Ky., the daughter of the late Norman Cope and Mollie (Murray) Cope. She married Ralph Thorn­bury on Dec. 23, 1948. He preceded her in death in 1999. Geneva is survived by four children, Rex (LuAnn) Thornbury of Elnora, Donna (Larry) Biehl of West Lafayette, Lisa (Jerry) Mincy of Seymour and Keri (James) Norris of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer) Biehl of Brookston, Kevin (Courtney) Biehl of Midland, Mich., Steven Biehl of Naperville, Ill., Katie Biehl and Jerilyn Mincy, both of West Lafayette, Christopher Smith, Jaclyn Smith and Amy Norris, all of Indianapolis, and Lauren (Mark) Hopkins of Seymour; and four great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Andrea Thornbury.

She was a graduate of Upton High School in Upton, Ky.

Geneva and her husband were self-employed since 1976 in farm-related businesses. They owned and operated Tri-County Agri Sales in Franklin for many years. Later, they were owner/operators of a trucking company traveling cross-country for several years.

She was a faithful member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church, where she served as a former elder and Sunday school teacher. She was involved in numerous organizations, including Church Women United, Fortnightly Club and the Fidelis Class. She was a member of the Johnson County Nimble Thimble Quilt Club.

Geneva was a volunteer with the Head Start program for reading in Franklin. She also crocheted blankets for premature babies. Geneva wrote two family books.

Bradford K. Moger will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hopewell Presbyterian Church, 677 W. State Road 44, Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St., (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin, and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin.
