INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis is preparing to host nearly 70,000 people for the National Rifle Association's annual convention, but tourism leaders are still trying to figure out what, exactly, the visitors will want.
Visit Indy CEO Leonard Hoops tells the Indianapolis Business Journal (http://bit.ly/1bY6EO9 ) that the NRA has enormous purchasing power, but officials are still trying to determine where they will spend their money during the April gathering.
The NRA has never met in Indianapolis. The makeup and size of the crowd are typically influenced by issues within the NRA and nationally, especially if there's a move afoot to restrict gun ownership.
The convention is expected to have a $55.4 million economic impact on the city. The April gathering is the second-largest non-sports trade show or convention the city has ever held.
