LAFAYETTE, Indiana — Much of the floodwaters have receded from along a creek near Lafayette that swamped several homes because of an ice jam.
The rising water from Wildcat Creek prompted the evacuations of about 20 people Friday from houses near where it flows into the Wabash River.
Resident Debbie Philpott tells WLFI-TV that seeing the damage to her home Sunday was devastating. She says a tree was pushed into her home, allowing water to rush inside. A neighbor's car was washed away and large slabs of ice remained scattered about the yards.
Another large ice jam that flooded lowland areas along the Wabash River in nearby Carroll County broke up Sunday afternoon. Tippecanoe County officials tell the Journal & Courier that it was moving through without troubles.
