Dorothy ‘Sue’ Stephens

Dorothy “Sue” Stephens, formerly of Germantown Hills, Illinois, Greers Ferry Lake, Arkansas, and Vienna, Illinois, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, in Indiana, after a brief stay at the Franklin United Methodist Community rehabilitation center.

Dorothy was born in Glendale, Illinois, to Charles Russell and Ruby (Murphy) on Jan. 3, 1938.

She grew up in Germantown Hills, graduated from Metamora High School in 1956 and then attended Brown Business College in Peoria, Illinios. In the same year, she married Ralph Stephens.

Dorothy is survived by daughter, Dorcas (Dean) Abplanalp of Indiana; son, David (Marie) Stephens of Tennessee; sister, Mary Lou “Marlo” (Len) Lufman; aunts, Evelyn Murphy, Yolanda Murphy and Pauline Brown; brother-in-law, Carl Stephens; sister-in-law, Emojean Lockard; and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents; her brother, William Paul; son-in-law, Kevan Malcome; and her precious fur-babies Missy, Tibet and Jasmine.

For many years, Dorothy worked in the payroll department at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois, and then at the department of higher education in Arkansas. She retired to her hometown in southern Illinois and had recently relocated to Indiana, where she quickly made new friends and enjoyed social activities at The Hearth. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, working in her flower beds, reading, Mexican food and Fannie May candy.
