Police: Man arrested, accused of car theft

A man was arrested and a woman was treated at the hospital after a car was stolen on U.S. 31.

Isaac Taylor Crawford, 19, 65 Crestwood Drive, Mooresville, was arrested on a charge of robbery and reckless driving.

Police were called to U.S. 31, near Amity, at 7:19 p.m. Friday for a report of a stolen vehicle. A couple was fixing their tire along the side of the road and said a man got in and drove the vehicle away, according to a

report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was still in the car and told police Crawford banged her head against the window. She told him to stop and she would get out. He demanded money, and she got out of the vehicle before he drove away, the report said.

She was treated at Johnson Memorial Hospital for a head injury.

Police stopped the vehicle driving at 91 mph on U.S. 31. The tire was missing, the report said.

Crawford was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail, where he was held on $31,000 bond.
