College update – December 6

Two Johnson County high school graduates were honored at the University of Indianapolis’ annual football banquet.

Greenwood graduate Lee Campbell, a junior, was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year, and Dillon Dallas, a Center Grove graduate, was named the Defensive Freshman of the Year.

The Greyhounds posted a 9-2 record.

GREENWOOD

  • Griffin Oakes was successful on field-goal tries from 23, 41 and 34 yards and missed from 38 yards in Indiana’s 23-16 football defeat of Purdue. The freshman converted both his extra-point attempts and averaged 62.2 yards on six kickoffs.
  • Jaren Hornbeak had two points (1 for 5, 0 for 1, 0 for 0) and two rebounds in eight minutes in 2-2 Hanover’s 70-57 basketball win against Wooster.

CENTER GROVE

  • Evansville’s Dan O’Brien, swimming at the 10-team House of Champions meet, was fifth of 46 in the 100 butterfly (50.83), seventh of 34 in the 100 backstroke (51.42), seventh of 32 in the 200 backstroke (1:57.30) and 27th of 50 in the 200 IM (2:00.12).
  • Bryce Krebs had one solo tackle and assisted on another for the Eastern Kentucky football team (9-4) in a 36-13 NCAA FCS playoff loss to Indiana State.
  • Nick Stoner caught four passes for 40 yards, including key third-down receptions, for the Indiana football team (4-8, 1-7) in a 23-16 defeat of Purdue.
  • Taylor’s Tyler Mills received honorable mention on the Mid-State Football Conference Mid-East All Star Team. The junior intercepted two passes, broke up 20 passes and made 49 tackles during the season.
  • Joe Reed scored 12 points (2 for 4, 8 for 10) and had five assists and a team-high 10 rebounds in 35 minutes for the IPFW basketball team (3-2) in a 68-67 loss to Dartmouth.
  • Jonny Marlin had a team-high 21 points (8 for 17, 2 for 7, 3 for 6), six rebounds, two steals and a team-high 11 assists for the Indiana Wesleyan basketball team (10-0) in 39 minutes in a 78-73 win against Bethel and 16 points (6 for 12, 0 for 2, 4 for 6), two rebounds, four assists and three steals in 38 minutes in an 85-80 defeat of Grace.
  • The Anderson basketball team (1-3) lost 68-57 to St. Mary’s and 90-61 to Trine. Shelby Shaffer had 11 points (3 for 10, 2 for 5, 3 for 6), two rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks in 38 minutes against St. Mary’s and 17 points (2 for 11, 1 for 6, 12 for 14), two rebounds, one steal and six assists in 38 minutes against Trine. Trine’s Nikky Moan had nine points (3 for 4, 0 for 1, 3 for 3), four rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes against the Ravens.
  • Kelcey Daugherty had two points (0 for 1, 2 for 2), one rebound and two assists in 13 minutes for the Manchester basketball team (2-1) in a 69-56 loss to Calvin.
  • The Wittenberg basketball team (5-1) defeated Otterbein 85-36 and lost 66-55 to Case-Western Reserve. Bobbie Clayton had seven points (3 for 6, 1 for 2) two rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in 31 minutes in the two games.
  • The Northern Kentucky basketball team (4-3) lost 77-38 to Ohio University and won 52-45 against Grand Canyon and 66-58 against UNC-Greensboro. Melody Doss played 13 minutes against Ohio and had one blocked shot. The senior had a team-high 15 points (4 for 8, 2 for 2, 5 for 6), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 32 minutes against Grand Canyon and 19 points (7 for 13, 1 for 4, 4 for 4), six rebounds, one assist and two steals in 31 minutes against Greensboro.

EDINBURGH

  • Kyle Wuest had nine points (3 for 7, 1 for 3, 2 for 2), three rebounds and one steal in 17 minutes for the Elmhurst basketball team (5-0) in an 81-57 defeat of Olivet.

FRANKLIN

  • Aurora soccer player Nick Cataldi was named to the All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference’s second team.

INDIAN CREEK

  • Erica Von Stein had one point (0 for 5, 0 for 5, 1 for 2), seven rebounds and a team-high five assists in 36 minutes in 4-0 Regis’ 78-61 win against Notre Dame de Namur.
  • The Northern Illinois basketball team (2-4) lost 55-46 to Eastern Illinois and 55-42 to South Dakota State and defeated Delaware State 79-59. Ally Lehman led the Huskies in rebounds in each game, with 11 against EIU and South Dakota State and seven against Delaware State. She had 21 points (7 for 25, 0 for 3, 7 for 11), 11 assists, four steals and one block in the three games, while averaging 33 minutes of playing time per contest.

WHITELAND

  • The Tennessee-Martin basketball team (2-5) lost 79-75 to Samford and won 84-74 against Evansville. Haley Howard had four points (1 for 4, 0 for 3, 2 for 2), two rebounds, two assists and one steal in 19 minutes in the loss and seven points (2 for 5, 1 for 4, 2 for 2), four rebounds and five assists in 13 minutes in the win.
  • Morgan Johnson had three points (1 for 2, 1 for 2, 0 for 0) and one assist in seven minutes for the Lindenwood basketball team (5-0) in an 80-75 defeat of McKendree.
  • The IU-Southeast basketball team (6-3) defeated Oakland City 69-49 and Johnson and Wales 86-72. Michaela Harris had five points (1 for 5, 1 for 3, 2 for 2), three rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes against Oakland City and three points (1 for 3, 0 for 2, 1 for1) three rebounds, one assist and one steal in 15 minutes against Johnson and Wales.
  • The Danville Community College basketball team (8-2) defeated Kankakee 61-59, the Culver-Stockton junior varsity 76-48, North Central Missouri 81-73 and Rend Lake 68-54. Kelsie Ratliff had 51 points (17 for 41, 13 for 31, 4 for 7), 16 rebounds, three assists, eight steals and four blocked shots in the four wins.
