Fire district board members needed

The boards that decide how much fire districts can spend to serve local communities are looking for new members.

The Board of Commissioners is looking for residents to fill positions on the fire boards in Amity, Bargersville, Hensley, Needham, Nineveh, White River and Whiteland.

Interested residents who live within the fire district and have a background in fire safety can apply.

Amity, White River and Nineveh need two representatives, while the rest of the boards are filling one seat. Fire board members serve four-year terms, with the exception of Nineveh, which also needs one representative for a one-year term. Fire board members determine the annual budget for their district.

Trustees on the Amity, Bargersville, Needham and White River fire boards are paid $20 for each meeting they attend, while Hensley and Nineveh board members volunteer. Information about pay for members of the Whiteland fire district board was not available.

The county is accepting applications for the positions through Tuesday. To apply, email the commissioners at [email protected] with a list of qualifications and which board you would like to join. Appointments will be made at the commissioners meeting Dec. 15.
