Norman R. Ponto

BRADENTON, Fla.

Norman R. Ponto, 80, former Greenwood resident and businessman, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014.

He was the former owner of Ponto’s Auto Service and worked alongside his two brothers, Adrian Ponto and Henry “Bud” Ponto, both also deceased. Norman moved to Bradenton, Florida with his family in 1980, and remained there until his passing.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine L. Ross Ponto; and his children, Rick Ponto and his wife, Christine Messina Ponto, Cindy Ponto-Bond and Susan Ponto-Rehmani. He had one granddaughter, Jordan Ponto.

Norman, Tubby, as his friends called him, was born May 2, 1934, in Tokio, North Dakota.

He was a member of the Bradenton Nazarene Church and was active for many years in the Lions Club.

He was a highly skilled mechanic and loved restoring old cars. His wife and son will continue running the family business in Bradenton.

A celebration of his life will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Monday at Bradenton First Church of the Nazarene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
