Shelter for pregnant women coming to Trafalgar

A new shelter is planned to open next year in Trafalgar for women with unplanned pregnancies.

Angelcare Inc. is planning a group shelter that will be able to house up to 12 pregnant women. Construction is scheduled to start in the spring on the home site, located near the Trafalgar branch of the Johnson County Public Library.

Angelcare will house women for free and give them life and job skills training. Two on-site house mothers will give the women prenatal education, access to healthcare and nutritional advice, according to a news release.

For women who wish to give their child up for adoption, Angelcare counselors will help with that process, said founder and president Rita Norwood.

The project has received support from local businesses and churches, as well as the Johnson County Community Foundation. Fundraising will be ongoing as the home is completed, furnished and opened. Donations can be mailed to Angelcare, Inc., P.O. Box 1454, Greenwood, IN 46142. Contributions also can be made through the group’s Web site, angelcare-inc.org.
