Gerald O. Uhlmansiek

AURORA

Gerald O. Uhlmansiek, 87, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, in Indianapolis.

He was born Sunday, Aug. 14, 1927, in Aurora, a son of the late Oliver Uhlmansiek and Faith Uhlmansiek.

Gerald served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He worked as a carpet layer for Martin Furniture & Flooring for more than 14 years then went on to work for Tom Anderson Flooring for an additional 19 years.

Gerald was an Aurora American Legion member for more than 63 years and was a past commander. He was also a member of the Aurora Eagles.

He enjoyed fishing, watching Cincinnati Reds and IU basketball, and cutting up with friends. Gerald loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Surviving children include Larry Uhlmansiek of Fort Myers, Florida, and Glenda Jones of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) Woodward, Nichole (Gary) Shelton, Stephanie (Brett) DeClemente and Patricia Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harley and Cletus Uhlmansiek; and sister, Evelyn Cottingham.

The service will be at 2 p.m. today at Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic St. in Aurora, with Scott Hanks and Mark Peters officiating. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Interment will be at East View Cemetery in Patriot. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local veterans service organizations.
