Elmer Cole Wilborn

Elmer Cole Wilborn, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at his home in Brown County. He was a resident of Brown County.

Elmer was born Sept. 22, 1932, in Allons, Tennessee, to the late Joe Wheeler and Ellen Frances (Stover) Wilborn.

He married Martha Ann Windle on June 21, 1952, in Beech Grove. She survives after 62 loving and devoted years of marriage.

Elmer attended Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis and went on to work in the construction industry building new homes. With his excellent carpentry skills, he built two different homes for his family in Brown County. In 1957, Elmer was employed as a job setter for Ford Motor Co., where he continued to work for 30 more years until his retirement in 1987.

Elmer was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local 1111. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting game, woodworking and recovering relics with his metal detector. Elmer also enjoyed making beautiful knives, listening to the Glenn Miller Orchestra and dancing with his wife.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Martha; one daughter, Jennifer Whetstine of Brown County; one son, Mark (Nancy) Wilborn of Brown County; 17 grandchildren, Jason, Heath (Pam), Sean, Matthew (Tonie), Nichole, Sophie, Christine, Katherine, Joshua, Andrew, Kyl, Robert, Philip, Justin, Misty, Angela, Shannon; and 21 great-grandchildren, Jason Jr., Jennifer, Heath Jr., Rebecca, Sean, Dalton, Olivia, Darryl, Alexis, Jessica, Michael, Mark, Maddilyn, Aubrey, Timothy, Joseph, Ariannah, Ashtin, Anthony, Kaiden and Cooper.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judith Opal Lasley, sons, Timothy Cole and Fred David Wilborn; granddaughters, Heather Lasley and Angel Wilborn; sisters, Leola Sauer, Dana England, Ailine Findley, Minnie Lee Patterson, Thelma Manifold and Darlene Arthur, and brothers, Gene and Joe Wilborn.

The Rev. Burt Brock will conduct a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St., Morgantown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown.
