Rosejane Smith

FRANKLIN

Rosejane Smith, 86, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin.

Rosejane was born April 3, 1928, in Columbus, to Bert and Roseada (Pence) Pruitt. She was raised in Columbus and was a 1945 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1949 graduate of Franklin College.

She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority; Tri Kappa Sorority; the Charlotte Emerson Club and the Shakespeare Club in Columbus. Rosejane was a volunteer for many years at the Johnson County food pantry. She was an avid bridge player.

Rosejane was a longtime educator in the Franklin Community School system and finished her teaching career at Franklin College.

She married Robert Graham “Bob” Smith on Aug. 6, 1950.

She was a lifelong Presbyterian. Rosejane and Bob spent many years in Fort Myers, Florida, where they were members of Chapel by the Sea church.

She is survived by her children, Carol McCallum (Don Hayes), Connie Smith (Harold Bledsoe) and Robert (Nancy) Smith; two grandchildren, Sarah McCallum (Nate Byrne) and Daniel Olson; and one great-grandson, Liam McCallum Byrne.

She also is survived by a brother, Pence Pruitt; two sisters, Ellie Pruitt (Harold Hoeferkamp) and Connie Pruitt (the late Jack Shafer); and a sister-in-law, Betty Lower.

She was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert G. “Bob” Smith, on Aug. 25, 2014; a daughter, Beverly Rose; and a grandson, Matthew McCallum.

The Rev. Jenothy Rather will conduct a celebration of Rosejane’s life at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, 1300 E. Adams Drive, Franklin. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Private inurnment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Flinn & Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is handling arrangements.
