Martha L. “Marty” Chitwood

Martha L. “Marty” Chitwood, 90, a longtime Greenwood resident, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Aspen Trace in Greenwood.

She was born Jan. 21, 1925, in New Jersey.

She was a member of Greenwood Christian Church where she had taught Sunday school.

She was a member of the American Theater Organ Society and the Indianapolis Rose Society.

She had been a volunteer at Riley Hospital for Children, was a tutor at Westwood Elementary School in Greenwood, a crime watch coordinator and a board member of the Retired Indiana Public Employees Association.

She had served as clerk treasure of the City of Greenwood and was a Johnson County Republican precinct committeewoman for 30 years.

She had received the distinguished Hoosier award. She also was a member of the Johnson County Republican Women’s Club and was a member of the Johnson County Young Republicans Hall of Fame.

She also was a secretary for Isom Elementary School in Greenwood for 10 years and worked for the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Survivors include her son Robb Chitwood (Stormy) of Fishers; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Lou Rushing of Ontario, Canada.

A celebration of life service is pending at Greenwood Christian Church, 2045 Averitt Road, Greenwood.
