Raymond ‘Barney’ Crouse Jr.

INDIANAPOLIS

Raymond “Barney” Crouse Jr., 92, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He was a resident of Indianapolis and a former resident of Greenwood.

The son of Raymond Crouse Sr. and Pansy Crouse Cazell, Barney was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Bicknell.

He served in the Merchant Marine and at the start of World War II enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Company C, 508th Parachute Infantry. He retired as a driver with Spector Freight Systems. He later worked as a security guard at Johnson Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of the Salvation Army and had attended Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, served as commander of Whiteland VFW Post 6978 and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association.

Barney is survived by his wife, Betty L. (Miller) Crouse of Indianapolis; a son, Ralph W. Crouse of Greenwood; a granddaughter, Jessica L. (Jason) Belton of Avon; and great-granddaughters, Sydney and Emerson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim, Leonard and Howard.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Entombment with military honors will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
