Robert Earl ‘Bob’ Davis

Robert Earl “Bob” Davis, 79, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

Bob was born in Mooresville on Sept. 28, 1935, to Harold Davis and Mildred (Coolee) Vogus but was raised by his mother and stepfather, John Vogus.

He was a 1953 graduate of Martinsville High School and took college courses through IUPUI. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Greenwood.

Bob married Rosalyn Meyer and together they had three children. After his wife’s death, he married Mary Gray (Sparkman) DeWees Davis on Nov. 23, 1981, at First Baptist Church in Greenwood; she survives.

He enjoyed traveling, golf, snow skiing, square dancing, round dancing and ballroom dancing. He and his wife enjoyed being winter Texans in Pharr, Texas, for 22 years.

Bob worked at Naval Avionics for several years as a mechanic and then at Allison Gas Turbine making airplane engines. He retired in 1991.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Gray (Sparkman) DeWees of Franklin; three children, Duane Davis (Mary Jo) of Mooresville, Marina Davis of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Andrea Ingle (Michael) of Greenwood; stepchildren, Bill DeWees of Bargersville and Debbie Manson (David) of Greenwood; one granddaughter, Heather Meredith (Michael); and six stepgrandchildren, Michael, Jessica and Nichole Wilson and Lauren, Whitney and Will DeWees; a great-grandchild, Niya DeWess; three brothers, Dorman Davis of the Villages, Florida, Charles Vogus (Janice) of Mooresville and Rick Vogus of Madison; and a sister, Patricia Poe of Greenwood.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosalyn; mother, Mildred Vogus; stepfather, John Vogus; and an infant brother, Dennis Davis.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Greenwood, 99 E. Main St. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin is handling arrangements.
