Betty Ranes

GREENWOOD

Betty Ranes, 95, of Greenwood, passed away March 27, 2015, at Kindred Transitional Care in Greenwood.

She was born Sept. 24, 1919, in Indianapolis to Walter Simeon Hartzell and Gertrude Estella (Kelly) Hartzell.

In 1941, she married the Rev. Harold Ranes, a widower with three young children. He preceded her in death.

She attended Mount Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing. As a pastor’s wife, she had been a teacher of the Bible to the young married class at North Baptist Church in Indianapolis.  She also had been an office administrator.

She had been a teacher of the Bible and office administrator.

Survivors include two daughters, Jacquelyn Young (Howard) of Tigard, Oregon, and Juanita Bertolet (Gene) of Greenwood; a son, Ronald S. Ranes (Kim) of Crossett, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Timothy Ranes; three brothers, Donald, Wallace and John Hartzell; and two sisters, June Blanchard and Marian Sharer.

The Rev. Joe Bartemus will conduct a service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S. Morton St. (U.S. 31 South) in Franklin. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
