Police investigate credit card fraud

Police are looking for two men that they said used a Johnson County man’s membership card to get into multiple stores and spend thousands of dollars.

A Johnson County man reported that his credit card was used to buy $600 in prepaid gift cards at Sam’s Club in Indianapolis in January, according to a Crime Stoppers news release.

Investigators found that man’s membership card had been used multiple times and that purchases totaled more than $14,000 at multiple Sam’s Club stores, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Alex Talley said.

The purchases were not all on the man’s credit card, he said. Police said the men likely used multiple credit or debit cards and that there were multiple victims, Talley said.

Investigators are working with police throughout central Indiana who have had similar cases, Talley said.
