Local school to mark silver anniversary

For the Daily Journal

Pleasant Grove Elementary School will celebrate its 25th year on April 26.

Past teachers, students and friends of the school are invited to walk the halls of the building to relive the memories they hold for the school, which is now a quarter-century old.

Much has changed since those early years, Principal Trael Kelly said. Today’s visitors would be amazed at the changes in the school, particularly in technology.

“The laptop carts, the multimedia technology, it’s simply the top of the line,” Kelly said.

Tablets have been implemented in many grade levels. Programs designed to assist students with math, creative writing and reading are always ready for students to utilize. Conferences are made easier with the technology set up in the newly renovated offices.

Beyond the considerable changes in technology are the extensive modifications in the overall safety of the school. With new locked entries and fenced playground areas, the school has moved toward making its students as safe as possible, which Kelly is sure visitors will appreciate.

Beyond visiting the building and seeing the renovations, Kelly would like to see former students and staff of Pleasant Grove join the current staff in celebrating the accomplishments of the school. Visitors are urged to walk the halls, talk with others and relive those memories that date back 25 years.

The school, on Fairview Road in the Center Grove School District, will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. April 26. Light refreshments will be served.
