Greenwood death ruled murder

An autopsy has shown that a man who died last week in Greenwood was murdered.

Douglas Anre Lee Lane, 20, a Johnson County resident, died of a gunshot wound to the head, Greenwood Police Chief John Laut said. The autopsy was conducted Monday morning.

Lane’s family has been notified.

No one has been arrested, and no charges have been filed, Laut said. The investigation is ongoing and detectives are pursing leads, Laut said.

The murder was not a random act of violence, Laut said. He said he could not comment further about what investigators had learned, a possible motive or the murder weapon.

Detectives have been working since the Friday afternoon shooting and have executed at least three search warrants in the case.

Police initially waited for a warrant to search the crime scene in the Park Greenwood apartment complex. Early Saturday morning, Johnson Circuit Judge Mark Loyd approved two additional warrants for other properties, he said.

The shooting happened at 3:40 p.m. Friday at the apartment complex southwest of U.S. 31 and Fry Road. Police found Lane dead inside an apartment in the 700 block of Wooddale Terrace.

Lane lived in the Hartshire Lakes apartment complex near State Road 135 and Whiteland Road in Bargersville but used and listed on his driver’s license an address on Wooddale Terrace, Laut said.

Witnesses saw a man wearing plaid shorts and white tennis shoes who was carrying a bag run north away from the apartment after shots were fired.
