Norman E. Niles

FRANKLIN

Norman E. Niles, 78, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2015, the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, where he was a resident. He was a former resident of New Castle.

Norman was born Dec. 27, 1936, in New Castle, the son of the late Loring and Juanita Halstead Niles.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962.

He retired from the J.C. Penney after 26 years. He formerly worked for Metropolitan Life, Indianapolis Life and Columbus Life insurance companies and Advance Auto Parts delivery.

He was an honorary member and past master of New Castle Masonic Lodge No. 91.

Norm loved being with family, especially his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and his church family. He liked to bowl and golf. He also loved to attend activities of his children growing up, including youth baseball, basketball and choir activities.

He and his wife enjoyed traveling and participated in Franklin College girls basketball by cheering with the cheer block of Grizzly Grandparents from Indiana Masonic Home and for the second year for their adopted Grizzly granddaughter Riley Achenbaugh.

He loved watching NASCAR races.

He enjoyed volunteering at the Indiana Masonic Home and singing in the chapel choir along with his wife. Now he is with his Maker in his heavenly home. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Devol Lodge 765, in Franklin and the New Castle Lodge No. 91.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Niles of Franklin; three children, Kevin Niles of Normal, Illinois, Karl Niles (Liz) of New Castle and Brenda Dean (John) of El Paso, Illinois; two stepchildren, Melinda Piotrowski (Steve) of Greenwood and Angela Richards (Brian) of Fortville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Niles of Mesa, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rosalyn Morris Niles; a sister, Myra Helms; and a brother, William Niles.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Marcum Community Funeral Home, 1402 Audubon Road, New Castle, with the Rev. Jeff Johnson officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Masonic Lodge 91 will have a service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition, in New Castle. There will be military honors provided by the VFW and American Legion.
