College update – December 26

Arizona swimmer Emma Schoettmer, a Center Grove High School graduate, has been named PAC-12 Swimmer of the Month for her performances in November.

The senior won both the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke against UCLA and won the 100 against Southern California. Her times in these two races in both meets met the NCAA “B cut” qualification times.

Center Grove

IPFW men’s basketball player Joe Reed scored a career-high 30 points (13 for 16, 0 for 1, 4 for 5) and had six rebounds and one assist in 34 minutes in a 95-89 win against Stetson. The win improved the Mastodons’ record to 9-4.

The Indiana Wesleyan men’s basketball team (12-1), competing at the Chandler-Gilbert Classic in Mesa, Arizona, defeated Rocky Mountain, Montana, 109-73 and Great Falls, Montana, 80-75. Jonny Marlin had 27 points (10-for 12, 5 for 7, 2 for 2), five assists and one steal against Rocky Mountain and 13 points (2 for 12, 1 for 4, 8 for 8), six rebounds, eight assists and one steal against Great Falls.

The Ancilla men’s basketball team (10-3) defeated Harry S. Truman 96-51. Anderson McCoy had 13 points (4 for 6, 3 for 4, 2 for 2), five assists, three steals and one rebound for the winners.

Shelby Shaffer had five points (2 for 9, 0 for 6, 1 for 2), two rebounds, three blocked shots, one steal and a team-high seven assists in 34 minutes for the Anderson women’s basketball team (3-7) in a 67-58 loss to Adrian.

The Manchester women’s basketball team (3-6) defeated Kalamazoo 61-45 and lost 66-54 to Oglethorpe, Georgia, and 71-70 in overtime to Belhaven, Georgia. Kelcey Daugherty had five points (1 for 5, 1 for 3, 2 for 2), one rebound and one steal in 26 minutes against Kalamazoo; four points (1 for 3, 1 for 3, 1 for 2) and two rebounds in 22 minutes against Oglethorpe; and 12 points (3 for 6, 1 for 2, 5 for 6), four assists and two rebounds in 24 minutes against Belhaven.

The Tennessee-Chattanooga wrestlers lost 18-14 to Ohio University and won 33-7 against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. Sean Mappes lost 8-3 at 174 pounds against Ohio and won by an 18-1 technical fall at 6:06 against SIU-Edwardsville.

Edinburgh

Kyle Wuest was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Player of the Week after scoring 31 points (9 for 17, 2 for 6, 11 for 13) and having a team-high eight assists, with four rebounds and one steal in 44 minutes for the Elmhurst men’s basketball team (9-1) in a 125-115 overtime win against Buena Vista. The senior, who was named to the all-CCIW first team last year, was a D3hoops.com preseason Division III All-American selection this year.

The Franklin men’s basketball team (1-8) lost 89-84 to Thomas More and 92-76 to Wabash. Caleb Giles had two points (0 for 2, 0 for 2, 2 for 2), two assists and two steals in 14 minutes against Thomas More, and four points (2 for 5, 0 for 2, 0 for 1) and one rebound in 12 minutes against Thomas More, and four points (2 for 5, 0 for 2, 0 for 1) and one rebound in 12 minutes against Wabash.

Franklin

Dylan Phair had 12 points (5 for 9, 0 for 2, 2 for 2), five rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Ancilla men’s basketball team in a 96-51 defeat of Harry S. Truman.

The St. Mary-of-the-Woods basketball team (5-7) lost 98-83 to Spalding, 104-84 to Rose-Hulman and 106-80 to Lindsey Wilson. Shelby Parmer had 23 points (9 for 31, 4 for 13, 1 for 1), three rebounds, five assists and one steal in 34 minutes in the three games; and Tara Parmer had 21 points (8 for 32, 2 for 12, 3 for 4), eight rebounds, 11 assists and 13 steals in 55 minutes.

Indian Creek

Brenden Smith had one solo tackle for the NAIA national champion Marian football team (12-2) in a 31-14 defeat of Southern Oregon in the championship game.

The Northern Illinois women’s basketball team (6-4) lost 89-62 to Wisconsin and won 89-73 against Drake and 68-64 against Bradley. Ally Lehman had nine points (4 for 12, 1 for 3, 0 for 0), seven rebounds and one assist in 33 minutes against Wisconsin; 10 points (5 for 9, 0 for 1, 0 for 0), one blocked shot, and team-highs in rebounds (11), assists (6) and steals (3) in 25 minutes against Drake; and 27 points (9 for 15, 1 for 2, 8 for 8), 14 rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots (all team highs) in 38 minutes against Bradley.

Whiteland

Michaela Harris had eight points (3 for 8, 2 for 5, 0 for 3), six rebounds, two assists, one blocked shot and three steals in 39 minutes for the IU-Southeast women’s basketball team (4-6, 1-1) in a 65-55 loss to West Virginia Tech.
