Columbus man faces attempted murder charge in shooting

A Columbus man has been charged with attempted murder after shooting two men, including a Franklin teen.

Kyle K. Husbands, 28, 2460 Charleston Place, was also charged with battery with a deadly weapon.

Husbands was arrested over the weekend after a shooting at a Columbus home that injured Tyler L. Lucas, 24, of Columbus, and Cody J. Spencer, 19, of Franklin.

Husbands had shown up at the home and was asked to leave by a woman, who said Husbands then hit her and tried to choke her, according to court documents.

Lucas and Spencer, who were also at the home, intervened, and the three men fought. A neighbor told police Husbands got into his car and began to leave, but then got out and walked up to the home with a gun. He went onto the porch, swung the door open and shot twice inside and then drove away, court records said.

Spencer had been shot in the chest, and Lucas had two gunshot wounds to his legs, but both were able to identify Husbands as the shooter, court records said. Lucas and Spencer were both taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and were expected to recover from their injuries, Columbus Police spokesman Lt. Matt Harris said.

Husbands was arrested a short time later at his home. If convicted on both felony charges, Husbands could be sentenced to between 21 and 46 years in prison and face fines of up to $20,000.
