Volunteers, counselors needed for Camp Can Do

<p>Johnson County Autism Support Group will host a summer program for teens on the autism spectrum.</p>
<p>Camp Can Do is a four-week summer day camp conducted at the Whiteland Community High School. The camp blends traditional camp activities with life skills in a fun environment.</p>
<p>Organizers are seeking college students majoring in education, exercise science, occupation therapy, recreational therapy or physical therapy who enjoy working with individuals with special needs to become counselors.</p>
<p>Counselors must be available from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. the weeks of June 20, June 27, July 11 and July 18. A mandatory training session will be from 9 a.m. to  4 p.m. June 17.</p>
<p>Pay is $10 per hour.</p>
<p>Counselors will spend their days alongside campers participating in activities like sports, games and fun science projects. Volunteers are expected to be mentors and friends to campers.</p>
<p>Organizers also are seeking junior volunteers. They must be high school students ages 14 or older and enjoy working with kids with special needs. Prior experience is not necessary; all that is required is a desire to help children with autism learn new things and have fun.</p>
<p>Volunteers are needed 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. the weeks of June 20, June 27, July 11 and July 18. All volunteers must attend a mandatory training session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 17.</p>
