Man who jumped in creek arrested

<p>A Morgantown man was arrested after police say he ran away during a traffic stop, eventually giving up when he jumped into a creek.</p>
<p>The sheriff’s deputy found suspected methamphetamine in the man’s pocket and a smoking device in his vehicle, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.</p>
<p>Alan M. Barnes, 32, 9014 Spearsville Road, Morgantown, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.</p>
<p>On Tuesday afternoon, a deputy spotted a speeding vehicle with a loud exhaust west of Franklin. The deputy started to follow the vehicle driven by Barnes and became suspicious when it pulled into a driveway where he did not live, according to the report.</p>
<p>The vehicle left, and as the deputy caught up to Barnes’ truck, Barnes began to speed even more, according to the report.</p>
<p>The deputy pulled Barnes over on County Road 100S west of Lakehurst Drive. Barnes got out of the truck and ran toward a wooded area, across a road, down an embankment and jumped into a creek, the report said.</p>
<p>That’s when he gave up, the report said.</p>
<p>Deputies found methamphetamine and a glass pipe, the report said.</p>
<p>Barnes was taken to Johnson County jail and held on $5,200 bond.</p>
