Money stolen from American Legion

Franklin police are investigating a burglary that took place at the American Legion in Franklin.

Early Thursday morning, a thief or thieves broke into the American Legion, 1200 Park Ave., and stole more than $1,000 in cash, damaged two doors and shattered a window where they entered the building, American Legion Post Adjutant Dave Rooke said.

A manager at the American Legion arrived Thursday morning to find almost every room rummaged through and the shattered window, according to the police report.

Later in the day, it was discovered that all cables coming from the building were cut, likely in an attempt to disable the alarm system at the legion, Rooke said.

A cost estimate of the damage done to the building had not been determined by Friday, Rooke said.

“It appears whoever did this was prepared,” Rooke said. “They knew exactly what they were looking for.”

A similar incident occurred the same morning in Columbus, where $5,000 was reported taken at American Legion Post No. 24.
