<h4><strong>Roncalli student to attend art and design camp</strong></h4>
<p>A Roncalli High School student will spend her summer studying animation.</p>
<p>Rachel Knierman was selected to participate in the Summer Seminar offered at the prestigious Savannah College of Art &amp; Design.</p>
<p>She received a scholarship to attend this seminar based on her submitted portfolio of work along with a recommendation from art teacher, Mark Stratton.</p>
<p>Knierman also received first place in the 2016 Indianapolis Right to Life Art Contest. She will receive $250 for her winning entry and the piece will be featured on the program cover for a fall dinner.</p>
<h4><strong>Scholarship available for local students</strong></h4>
<p>Local students who volunteer with a public safety organization may be eligible for a scholarship.</p>
<p>The Indiana Homeland Security Foundation is now accepting applications for the Secure Indiana Scholarship Program.</p>
<p>Applicants must attend or will be attending an accredited Indiana College, have a 2.8 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and volunteer with a public safety organization such as a fire department, emergency management agency, law enforcement agency or emergency medical services. This must be validated by the agency’s chief executive.</p>
<p>The deadline to apply is July 15. </p>

<p>A $2,000 scholarship is available for full time students and $1,000 is available for part-time students.</p>
<h4><strong>Roncalli names scholarship winners</strong></h4>
<p>Roncalli High School announced scholarship winners during their annual academic honors reception.</p>

<h4><strong>Center Grove student places in essay contest</strong></h4>
<p>A Center Grove High School student placed in a state wide essay contest.</p>
<p>Gabrielle VanBuskirk placed third in the Sevenish Law Firm scholarship essay contests.</p>
<p>Writers had to write about how they would handle a school shooting situation and how students and schools can prevent a shooting before it happens.</p>
<p>VanBuskirk plans to attend the University of Evansville.</p>
<h4><strong>High school choir plans princess tea</strong></h4>
<p>Elementary-aged students can have tea and learn a song from their favorite princess during a fundraiser for the high school choir program.</p>
<p>The princess tea for preschool and elementary-aged students is at 4:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. June 6 and 7 or at 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. June 8 at Center Grove High School, 2717 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood.</p>
<p>Children will be treated to visits from Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel, Jasmine, Belle and Snow White.</p>
<p>The event also will include hair up-dos, painted nails, tea, learning a song from a princess and a princess story time. The characters also will be available for photos.</p>
<p>Cost is $30 per child with a $5 discount for families. Registration can be done at centergrovechoirs.org. The event typically sells out.</p>
<h4><strong>Middle schooler can attend camp</strong></h4>
<p>Local middle school students interested in a job in law enforcement can explore the career during a leadership camp this summer. The 37th annual Indiana Sheriff’s Youth Leadership Camp will be July 11 to 13 at Waycross Episcopal Camp near Morgantown.</p>
<p>The camp is for boys and girls in seventh or eighth grade.</p>
