Man takes children, threatens woman

A man was arrested after he forced his way into an Edinburgh home and shoved a woman to the ground during a dispute over his children.

Phillip Lawson, 32, of Hope, was arrested on charges of residential entry, intimidation, neglect of a dependent, battery in presence of a minor, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

The woman told police Lawson forced his way into her apartment, breaking a storm door. The woman is the temporary guardian of Lawson’s two children, and Lawson wanted the children, according to a report from the Edinburgh Police Department.

After forcing his way inside the home, Lawson grabbed the two children and forced them outside, according to the police report.

When the woman told Lawson he couldn’t take the children, he threatened the woman and shoved her to the ground, according to the report.

Lawson started walking toward the Edinburgh Police Department with the two children, so he could report the woman, and the two argued in the parking lot before police officers intervened. After talking to both Lawson and the woman, Lawson was arrested.

Lawson, 814 Walnut St., was held in the Johnson County jail on $5,800 bond.
