Center Grove resident reports credit card fraud

A Center Grove area woman had no idea that her information had been used to pay for cosmetic surgery, dental work and clothing until she got a call from a credit card company.

The company asked the woman if she was on the phone with them, trying to open an account. She wasn’t.

And that was when she learned someone had been using her information to open new credit cards and a credit line, racking up thousands in purchases, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Whoever had gotten her information had also attempted to open credit cards in her name at several other stores, the report said.

In the past two months, the woman’s information had been used by someone with an Illinois address to open a credit card at a clothing store and buy more than $240 in merchandise, and to open a $13,000 credit line, and then spend $3,600 at a dental office and $9,190 at a cosmetic and liposuction center, the report said.

The woman filed a report with the sheriff’s office, providing the Illinois address and phone number the person had used when opening the accounts in her name, the report said.
