<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Roncalli student goes to Hoosier Boys State</strong></p>
A Roncalli High School senior spent part of his summer at a leadership camp.Ronnie Kawak attended Hoosier Boys State this summer at Trine University.
The young men formed a mock state government, voted on laws, heard from leaders from around the state and attended classes that suited their interests.
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Local girls can join Girl Scouts, adults can help</strong></p>
Local Girl Scouts are calling all girls in kindergarten to Grade 12 and their families to learn more about the organization.Girl Scouts is adding girls to existing troops and forming new troops for ages kindergarten through high school. The troops also are recruiting adult volunteers. Two recruitment nights are planned.
The first begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Greenwood Pubic Library, 310 S. Meridian St. The next night also begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 at White River Library, 1664 Library Blvd., Greenwood.

<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Education department honors Greenwood school</strong></p>
A Greenwood elementary school has been honored in a statewide contest to celebrate the bicentennial.The Indiana Department of Education named Southwest Elementary School as having one of the 200 Promising Practices to celebrate Indiana’s 200 years of statehood.
Fifth graders at the school conducted a living museum, where students researched a historic figure, dressed up like them and delivered a prepared speech on their life.
The department plans to highlight practices as an opportunity for educators to network with each other.
