High school football kicks off with big numbers, expectations

Friday night football is back. We’ve got your complete guide to the games and the season ahead. Here are the highlights:

<strong>Center Grove has room for you</strong>

No more arriving an hour before kickoff to get a seat. Nearly 2,000 seats were added when the bleachers were replaced. The Trojans have room for 6,000 fans.

<strong>Big stage</strong>

Each year, teams are selected to play at Lucas Oil Stadium. Class 5A No. 10 Whiteland opens its season on the biggest stage in the state against No. 2 New Palestine, last year’s state runner-up.

<strong>Who to watch</strong>

Titus McCoy of Center Grove rushed for 1,912 yards and 40 touchdowns as a junior, and he’s a Mr. Football candidate this fall. Whiteland has three Junior All-State picks from last year back on defense: DT Ryder Emberton, LB Logan Mullinix and CB Djimmon Ogega.

<strong>What’s in a number?</strong>

Center Grove starts the season ranked No. 1 in 6A, Roncalli is No. 3 in 4A, and Whiteland is 10th in 5A.

<strong>Milestone within reach</strong>

Indian Creek coach Mike Gillin is going for his 300th career victory tonight against Lawrenceburg.
