A woman used internet messaging to get help after she said her roommate became erratic, had a gun and wouldn’t let her leave.
The incident unfolded Thursday morning at an extended stay hotel in Greenwood.
Edward Stellard, 52, of Franklin, was arrested on three charges of possession of methamphetamine, cocaine and paraphernalia and one charge of criminal confinement.
No one was injured, according to a Greenwood police report.
A woman told police that she was shopping nearby early Thursday when Stellard began texting her to return to their room. When she arrived, he was acting erratically, claimed to have had items stolen from his truck and told her she was not going to be allowed to leave, the report said. She told police that he was handling a gun, the report said.
She tried to call a friend, but got no answer. She finally reached her friend using an internet messaging system, and asked the friend to call police.
Police arrived about 8:15 a.m. Thursday, and the woman told police she had been held against her will for about two hours, the report said.
Stellard told police that he had smoked methamphetamine, but was not handling his gun and did not tell his roommate that she could not leave, the report said.
He was arrested and held at the Johnson County jail on $19,000 bond.
