Warriors lose at home
Plainfield came to Johnson County on Thursday and left with a 4-1 victory against host Whiteland. Now 3-2 overall, the Warriors are 1-1 in Mid-State Conference play.
Caleb Scott defeated Plainfield’s Brady Sinks at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, for Whiteland’s lone point. Adam Zietlow lost to the Quakers’ Matt Stone, 6-2, 6-4 at the second singles spot, and Garrison Pelfree lost at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 7-5.
Cory Ulrich teamed with Noah Thompson at No. 1 singles for the Warriors but lost 6-2, 6-0. The second doubles grouping of Nolan Lee and Grant Cloud lost 6-1, 6-4.
Panthers blank Trojans
Center Grove dropped a 5-0 decision against Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference rival North Central.
Sophomore Trey Thixton took his match at No. 1 singles to three sets before eventually losing to the Panthers’ Ian Brady, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Trojans sophomore Nic Ballesteros lost to Brian McAuley, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, while senior Akul Vijayvargia lost his No. 3 singles match, 6-1, 6-1.
Woodmen top Artesians
Greenwood defeated Martinsville, 4-1, in its Mid-State Conference opener to improve to 3-0 overall.
Jack O’Reilly won his match at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2, while Grant Bryant prevailed at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4. The Woodmen’s other points were by doubles tandems Alex Walsh/Jacob Rothaar and Ben Sobieray/Eric Moenkhaus — both by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Brownstown tops Lancers
Edinburgh No. 1 singles player Coltan Henderson rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory in his match, but it wasn’t enough in a 4-1 loss to Brownstown Central.
Lancers No. 3 singles player Tommy Schneider was competitive in his match, losing by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Girls golf
Carmel bests Center Grove
Carmel defeated Center Grove, 156-176, in a match played at Prairie View Golf Club.
Sophomore Lucy Young’s 39 led the way for the Trojans, while Hannah Wilson completed her round with a 41. Senior Shelby Schier had a 47, Kirby Swails a 49 and Ashley Voyles a 52.
Terhune low for Woodmen
Bloomington North scored a 164-196 victory against Greenwood at Hickory Stick Golf Club.
Low score for the Woodmen came from Maecee Terhune with a 46. Maeci West finished two shots back with Laila Stein, Taylor Watson, Bridget Lindstrom and Christina Challman all shooting 51.
Greenwood players Isabell Hunt and Kinley Mahan carded a 58 and 62, respectively.
Valant leads Cougars
Greenwood Christian Academy defeated Crispus Attucks, 163-188, in a match stopped after seven holes due to time.
Sophia Valant led the way for the Cougars with a 48 through seven holes.
Volleyball
Lancers fall to Morristown
Edinburgh took Morristown to five sets but couldn’t close the deal against the Yellow Jackets, 26-24, 25-19, 26-28, 19-25, 15-12.
The Lancers are 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Center Grove battled Lawrence Central with the two teams finishing play in a 0-0 tie.
Rebels lose to Flashes
Franklin Central defeated Roncalli, 4-1, with Henry Sang producing the lone goal for the Rebels.
