MARTINSVILLE
Virginia C. Lawson, 81, of Martinsville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016.
She was born July 6, 1935 in Indianapolis, to Addis E. and Dolores V. Coleman.
Virginia enjoyed bird watching, flower and vegetable gardening and raising chickens. She would also can vegetables and make jelly from her garden produce.
Virginia was a great storyteller and enjoyed talking to people, and loved her grandkids dearly.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra White; brother, Larry Coleman; and sister, Elizabeth Terhune.
Virginia is survived by her son, Michael (Laura) Whitaker; daughters, Nancy (George) Lane III and Marcia Wilson; sister, Mary (Don) Voiles; grandchildren, Melissa (Ross) Vinelli, Michelle (Benjamin) Silliman, George (Audery) Lane IV, Rebecca (Darren) Manning, Brian Whitaker, Cory (Lucy) White, Rachel (Shawn) Knight, Joseph Wilson and Joshua Wilson (Carissa Chew); 22 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong best friend, Catherine “Rena” Bodenreider.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
