Jerald L. "Jerry" Purdy

<p>COLUMBUS</p>
<p>Jerald L. "Jerry" Purdy, 79, of Columbus, passed from this life at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, at his home.</p>
<p>Jerry retired from Reliance Electric as an audit inspector where he had worked for 37 years.</p>
<p>He was most recently employed at Sam’s Club and had previously worked at Otter Creek Golf Course and Timbergate Golf Course.</p>
<p>He was a member of First Christian Church, a 50-year member of St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, the Murat Shrine, Columbus Moose Lodge and Columbus Eagles Lodge.</p>
<p>He was a 1957 graduate of Franklin High School.</p>
<p>A sports enthusiast, Jerry enjoyed golfing, playing softball, coaching, watching IU basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.</p>
<p>Mr. Purdy was born in Indianapolis, July 31, 1937, to Samuel Lee and Freda Mae Meyers Purdy.</p>
<p>He married Jean Downing on June 14, 1980.</p>
<p>Survivors include his wife of 36 years; his children, Debbie (Ron) Anderson of Bargersville, Ricky Lee Purdy of Franklin, Mike (Janét) Purdy of California and Marvin (Meggan) Purdy of Franklin; grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica), Christopher, Devon, McKinley, Destiney, Abigayle, Morgan and Landon Purdy, Derrick Corley and Angela (John) Pine; great-grandchildren, Amira, Calyx, Tristan, Elijah, Carmyn, Zaidyn and Lilly Purdy and Preston and Nathan Corley; a brother, Jack Nolan (Iris) Purdy of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by his parents; and a stepdaughter, Chere Nichole Harrison.</p>
<p>The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver &amp; Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington St., Columbus, with Ron Anderson officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to time of service Thursday at the funeral home. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Green Lawn Cemetery in Franklin.</p>
