William H. Carman

<p>William H. Carman, who was born in Casey County, Kentucky, on Sept. 4, 1938, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the Indiana Masonic Home Hospital, where he had been a patient for a few hours. He would have been 78 on Sept. 4.</p>
<p>William, a Franklin High School graduate in 1957, was a veteran of two tours in the U.S. Coast Guard and one tour in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Indiana University and was a registered geologist and a real estate broker. Some say he was a dreamer, a soldier of fortune who traveled and explored extensively.</p>
<p>William also had worked for the American Coal Company in Alaska in the northwest.</p>
<p>William was preceded in death by his parents, Willie F. Carman and Oma Emerson Carman; and nephews, Douglas Carman, Leslie Carman, Steven "Luke" Herald and Andrew Stolworthy of Warsaw.</p>
<p>William is survived by a sister, the Rev. Wanda Carter of Star City; brothers, Juel Carman (Patti) of Franklin and Buel Carman (Lana) of Pensacola, Florida; three nieces, Sandra Herald Stolworthy, Amy Carman Wiley and Melissa Carman; and five nephews, Andrew Carman, James Carman, David Herald, John Herald and Mark Herald.</p>
<p>Other survivors include Jeannie Carman, William’s former wife of Scottsdale, Arizona; and best friend since childhood, Floyd Peyton of Greenwood.</p>
<p>No services will be scheduled, per William’s request.</p>
