A police chase that began in Edinburgh reached speeds of 100 mph and ended in Brown County.
Thomas R. Brockman, 43, 1197 Nelson Ridge Road, Columbus, was arrested on multiple charges, including:
Two counts of criminal recklessness with a vehicle
Two counts of driving while suspended with a prior conviction
Three counts of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle
Two counts of aggressive driving
Two counts of failure to stop after an accident
Resisting law enforcement
Reckless driving
Criminal recklessness
The chase began at 7 p.m. Monday after Edinburgh police stopped Brockman’s vehicle. Brockman sped away and police followed south on U.S. 31. The chase continued on county roads and then onto State Road 46, where Brockman drove around a closed gate into a wooded area. At one point, Brockman told police he had a gun and drove toward deputies, almost hitting them, police said.
Brockman then left the wooded area, driving back toward State Road 46, where Edinburgh Police Chief David Mann was waiting, deputies said. In order to keep Brockman from driving into oncoming traffic, Mann collided with Brockman’s vehicle, but Brockman kept going and headed into Brown County, deputies said.
Officers stopped the pursuit when they lost the vehicle. But a state trooper spotted Brockman, and deputies tried to stop his vehicle with stop sticks. He went around the first set but hit a second set, which deflated all four tires. Brockman continued to flee until the vehicle’s engine blew and he hit a guardrail, deputies said.
Brockman ran into a wooded area, where he was arrested.
In July, Brockman was involved in another pursuit with deputies and was arrested. Brockman had also fled from deputies last week, police said.
“His behavior continues to put the public at risk,” Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers said.
Brockman is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail on $73,600 bond.
