James Roy (“Jim,” “J.R.”) Green, 67, of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, surrounded by family.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1948, in Indianapolis, to his beloved parents, James M. Green and Margaret Anne LaGrange Green.

J.R. grew up in Indianapolis with his sister and best friend, Janet Anne, and moved when he was 16 to the family home in Hanover.

He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1967 and Hanover College in 1971.

He married the love of his life, Tamara “Tammy” Dunlevy Green, on April 24, 1971, and began his life with her in Franklin. While Tammy began her teaching career at Webb Elementary School, he received his law degree magna cum laude from Indiana University School of Law — Indianapolis (now I.U. McKinney School of Law) in 1974.

J.R. practiced law in Indiana from 1974 until 2014, serving as counsel at the Indiana attorney general’s office and as a private practice attorney for several decades, helping clients through some of life’s most difficult events and circumstances.

He retired from the law firm of Wilson, Green & Cecere in Greenwood.

Jim and Tammy welcomed their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, into this world in 1982, and he was a proud father of her ever since.

He was an honored member of the National Rifle Association, the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, the Hanover Alumni Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the Johnson County Bar Association, the Hanover Presbyterian Church, the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Franklin, a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Franklin, and he attended Friendship Baptist Church in Franklin.

He enjoyed regularly calling loved ones to discuss the days’ events, recall memories and exchange well wishes.

He had a deep faith in God, an unbreakable devotion to his family and a passion for history and America’s natural wonders.

He spent much of his time reading the Bible, hunting, fishing, hiking and target shooting.

He leaves this world with countless individuals whom he loved and cared for, including his devoted and loving wife, Tamara (Tammy) Dunlevy Green of Franklin; his beautiful and compassionate daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Green of Indianapolis; his best friend and sister, Janet Anne Green Washburn; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Steven Jay Washburn of Greenwood, Melinda Dunlevy and David Martin of Lebanon; his father- and mother-in-law, Ralph and Alta Dunlevy of Indianapolis; his aunts and uncles, Boone and Aunt Wilma LaGrange of Rio Grande City, Texas, Evelyn and Ed Hunter of Fishers; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Anne Washburn Gast (Andy) of Indianapolis, Heather Elizabeth Washburn of Louisville, Kentucky, and Matthew James Washburn of Bloomington; many cousins who loved him dearly; and his faithful dog, Annie.

He joins his parents and his grandparents in interment.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Friendship Baptist Church, 1600 Westview Drive, Franklin. The Rev. Fred Brown will conduct a funeral service at 4 p.m. on Saturday, with the family receiving friends from 3 p.m. until the service time of 4 p.m. at the church. A graveside service will be held at noon on Monday at Hanover Cemetery in Hanover.

The family requests that live flowers please not be sent due to medical allergens of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Baptist Church, 1600 Westview Drive, Franklin, IN 46131.
